The Shithouse Masters

This is the name we give to our 4-track recordings from 1993-1998, up to the release of the Rabbit Themes CD. You can download a full-length CD The Best of the Shithouse Masters for free.

There is full commentary on all of these recordings here.

The "Degausser" sessions

Basically this started as 2 days of informal jamming (i.e. making a racket) that we had in October 2000, just before we started work on The First 100 Years. The idea was to completely improvise new tunes and develop new ways of working (By the way, it's called "Degausser" because I was waiting for one to be delivered to our house, FACT FIENDS).

At the first session, other than recording a couple of hours of music, we wrote Down, and came up with new ways of doing stuff that we've explored ever since.

After finishing The First 100 Years, we had another session in, spookily enough, October 2001 and another couple of hours worth of music was written and recorded.

We spent most of 2002 doing this, and pretty much everything you hear on Solid Ground was written in this way

It probably sounds very dry but luckily MR. TUNE was in attendance and the best bits stand up on their own, we think. If you want a CD of the best of this, contact us.

The Liberty Ship

Marc JD had another band, but we tried not to take it personally. They've split up now, but they have a page on the Matinee website here.

Frankie Machine

Steve JD is proud to be one of Frankie Machine's many friends, appearing both of his albums. He has recently been promoted to a gigging Machine - more information from www.frankiemachine.com

compilation appearances

Kung-Fu Santa With A Christmas Punchbag

Free compilation CD packaged in a beautiful Christmas Card digipack sleeve, featuring Artists Against Success recording artistes.

We contributed our interpretation of the traditional "I Saw Three Ships" and a track we recorded during the Solid Ground sessions, "I Forgot What I Set Out To Do".

Hunting for Teeth, 27 October 2005

To commemorate the third birthday of this legendary Derby gig night, we were asked to play and to contribute an exclusive track. We gave them a track we recorded during sessions for Solid Ground, "Kitty Empire / Mirror Mirror".

Beerglassed

Compilation album released in 2004 that featured "Second Greatest" from Solid Ground. Visit Beerglass Records for more details.

Stressed Vol.1

Compilation of Derby bands that featured our "U R My Oar" amongst many others. Visit Stressed Records for more details.

No Sales: No Sellout

Released in 2003, this is the compilation featuring a track from every Artists Against Success release since 1998. It features "Dick's Kitchen" from Rabbit Themes and "Ricky & Fred" from Players, as well as tracks by MJ HIBBETT, FRANKIE MACHINE, and LAZER GUIDED amongst others. Also included is exclusive on-body artwork by Oxbow and a groovy multimedia section.

Now That's What I Call Valid

"The Canadian National Anthem" was recorded just after the Rabbit Themes sessions. It's available for free download from the Now That's What I Call Valid page.

Whilst not literally being the National Anthem of Canada, we think it should be - you'll know what we mean if and when you hear it.
