The Shithouse Masters - notes by Steve
batch 2
12/93 - 1/94
Alien Song - Square Hole - The Big Unknown - Playing With Bones
- Aqualung (The Millers) - 11 (Sesame Street Counting Song) - Trouble
Free - Testing Out The Mic - Flashing Lights - Weld - Oasis (Peru)
- Potential Bong - Rabbit Theme - Where's
My Mary? - Jurrasic
The second batch we recorded really quickly. Obviously the 4-track
we'd recorded the first batch on had gone back to it's owner so
we had to make do with a fairly knackered machine that my old piano
teacher had given me - thanks to Johnny P Coolin who managed to
get it working (after a fashion). The M.O. stayed the same, half
the tracks recorded by Giles and myself, Albert and John lending
a hand with the rest.
We had another pop at a Millers track (had we actually split up
by this point?) and had a sideways swipe at our mates Peru with
our country version of their Oasis.
The ones we just knocked together invariably overshadowed the songs
that we slaved over; most notably Potential
Bong, a song inspired by a friend of mine who thought
it was great to try to make bongs out of anything and everything.
Note the first occurrence of the phrase Rabbit
Theme - a 30 second bit of pastoral banjo playing. Tracks
Where's My Mary? and Jurassic
highlight our 4 main obsessions at the time - funk, heavy metal,
dinosaurs and girls called Mary.
