The Shithouse Masters - notes by Steve
batch 5
9/94 - 6/95
Ilkeston - Superhero - No Lizard King - Say Something - Lie-Dream
of World Travel - Sad Face - Reader and The Poster-Girl - Heading
South - Got It Easy - Reverence (Jesus and Mary Chain) - The Last
Mod - Trouble Free - Vision Cube - JD Stomp - Je Voudrais une Glace
This is where we started hitting our stride, I think. Ilkeston
is either our attempt at summing up our ambivalent feelings about
our home town or some cod white-boy rapping; Got
It Easy is another classic collaboration with Albert;
Vision Cube and Trouble
Free are proof that 4-tracks can 'do loud'.
At this time we had our first contact with Laurent & Virginie
of Candy Chérie, France, who approached us to do a CD single
- this would eventually become the 4th
Butch Master 7" single the following year (see the
singles page for more info).
The tracks intended for the CD were Real
Life, Heading South, Superhero, Say Something, The Last Mod
and Vision Cube.
Laurent and Virgine were kind of obsessed with the Jesus and Mary
Chain, releasing 3 volumes of tribute albums - our funked-up version
of Reverence was recorded for
one of these.
