The Shithouse Masters - notes by Steve
batch 6
6/95 - 1/96
New Pink Shirt - What Made You Want This? - 4x4 - Who Is It?
- The Artist - Jilted G. - Space - I'm OK, You're OK - Stoney Clouds
- Drunken Master - Bring A Friend - The Sucker - Pizzarollarama
- The Music Of A Golden Age - This Is A Tune
The golden age of two-man JD. Recorded at the same time as the
above, this was our concerted effort to make an album's worth of
stuff that stood on it's own. And I think we achieved our goal,
to be quite honest.
New Pink Shirt is a classic
- this is not opinion, I can prove this mathematically with a pad
and pencil; Jilted G (later
to be issued as our first single) was our attempt to avoid all of
our songs being 3 minutes long - so we stretched it out to 7; Space
is just odd and is still a favourite of mine; This
Is A Tune is the blues of a white DJ; Pizzarollrama
features the voice of our French friend Laurent and our only other
guest star, Brian Price on drums.
It's all there - acoustic majesty, paint-the-sky guitar solos and
lyrics about not owning a bass guitar and kung fu. Magic!
4 of these songs would later be re-recorded by the current line-up
of JD, 3 of them being played live at our earliest gigs.
